Bill
Ludwig was a championship
football coach, associated with Salisbury's Boyden High School for
28 years. He was one of the best known high school coaches in the
state and one
of the first coaches to coach North Carolina in the Shrine Bowl. He
was also one
of the first to coach the West in the East-West all-star game. His
1955 and 1957 Boyden teams won state 3-A titles. Ludwig achieved an
overall record of
172 wins, 55 losses and 13 ties. He also served as president of the North
Carolina High School Coaches Association |

Recipient of the Horace
Billings Lifetime Achievement Award
Former
co-owner, editor and publisher of the Salisbury Post. James Hurley
III was recognized for
his commitment to the community in sports, recreation and other
walks of life. He was an outstanding high school and American Legion baseball
player and high school football player. He set a Virginia state record
at Woodberry Forest with an 80 yard punt. In addition, he also
played on three Labor Day championship golf teams. He also brought the Women's
Futures Golf Tour to Salisbury. |

Romus Jefferies |

Romus
Jefferies was a basketball
and football star at East Spencer's
Dunbar High School. Jefferies earned a football scholarship to Livingstone
College and made all CIAA in 1967 and 1970. He was awarded the 1970's Blue
Bears Coca Cola Golden Helmet Award and graduated from Livingstone in
1971.
Jefferies was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1971and was inducted
into the Livingstone College Hall of Fame in 2002. |

Sam
Moir |
Sam
Moir was a men's
head basketball coach and staff member at Catawba College for 34
years. He posted one of the top 25 winning records in the nation.
His teams posted
a 546-399 record, winning 58% of their games. Moir was named coach of the year
three
times in the Carolina Conference and NAIA District 26. He retired with
seven championships and two trips to the NAIA National Tournament.
Moir coached track, winning five conference championships and
coached
championship teams at Mt. Airy High School as well. Moir retired in 1994.
The annual High School Christmas Tournament there is named in his honor. |
