| Fire broke out in the parts department of the
Ben Mynatt car dealership at 629 S. Jake
Alexander Blvd. early this morning, causing smoke damage to the entire
facility.
One firefighter was treated on the scene for heat exhaustion. No employees were at the business when the fire started. There was no word this morning on the cause of the fire. Battalion Chief Currie Butler said Salisbury Fire Department got the call at 5:45 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the middle of the building, and they located the fire in the parts department. Butler said the fire was contained in that area and firefighters had it under control quickly, but smoke filled the facility. Phones at the Pontiac-GMC-Nissan dealership were not working this morning. Firefighters got on the roof to vent the fire. Others fought the fire from inside the building. No flames were visible from the outside. In addition to all Salisbury fire departments, several other departments responded to the fire, including Cleveland, Faith, Franklin, Granite Quarry, Locke, Rockwell, South Salisbury and Spencer. The Rowan County Rescue Squad refilled firefighters' air tanks. Butler declined to identify the firefighter who suffered heat exhaustion. A crew from Rowan County Emergency Medical Services was also on the scene. As the dealership's employees arrived, they moved vehicles out of the showroom and away from the building.
