Fire Safety House

The "Fire Safety House" was donated this in 1998 to the Salisbury Fire Department by a generous gift from the Salisbury Community Foundation.  The Julian Robertson Foundation provided a grant to purchase a Ford 350 pickup truck to pull the house

The Fire Safety House is a "portable miniature house" that we can take out into the community and is designed to prepare children as well as adults for the unexpected experiences of fire. A non-toxic smoke simulator allows one to practice crawling in a smoke filled environment. Visitors are taught how to feel the walls to find exits. A heated door warns you of a possible fire on the other side and that you need to find another exit. An escape ladder is provided to demonstrate how to escape from a second level. The living-room fireplace offers realistic dangers as well. A fully equipped kitchen, 9-1-1-phone system closed circuit television and other related safety devices are installed to assist in teaching fire safety.
