To perform skilled general service technician duties associated with routine shop equipment, vehicle and building maintenance.
This position is designed to support fleet maintenance operations in a capacity that permits mechanics and parts personnel to more effectively perform their duties without the distractions of more routine maintenance.
Receives immediate supervision from the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.
Exercises no supervision.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES – duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform preventive maintenance on light and heavy vehicles and equipment.
Service vehicles by checking a variety of fluid levels; lubricate and change oil and other fluids.
Perform shop equipment maintenance.
Mount and balance light and heavy vehicle tires; repair and replace flat tires.
Pick up and deliver vehicles and parts.
Clean and maintain Fleet facilities and general work areas.
Empty trash receptacles.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Vehicle preventive maintenance and basic servicing procedures.

Ability to:
Operate automotive service equipment and tools.
Detect, evaluate and repair standard broken shop equipment and other non-technical vehicle and shop-related problems.

Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Remain flexible in job assignments.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift weights up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requires the ability to read and write.
Experience:
One year of training in general vehicle, shop and building maintenance.

Technical or other specialized training related to vehicle, shop, and building maintenance is desirable.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid North Carolina Class C driver’s license; ability to obtain a Commercial Class “A” Driver’s License with a P endorsement.
