FIRE
LOGISTICS OFFICER
DEFINITION
To perform duties to
ensure that the Fire Department is supplied with the necessary equipment,
supplies and servicing to operate efficiently and effectively, and to assist
the Fire Chief in budget preparation.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general
supervision from the Fire Chief.
Exercises functional
and technical supervision over assigned technical staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to,
the following:
Monitor the
departmental budget and maintain records of receipts, expenditures and line
item balances; assign account control numbers on all invoices and requisitions;
and monitor departmental fixed assets, petty cash, and check requests.
Assist with final
departmental budget recommendations and submit to Fire Chief.
Assist in the
development of apparatus and equipment specifications.
Review manufacturer
and contractor bid proposals and make recommendations to the Fire Chief.
Maintain inventories
of departmental supplies and equipment; furnish all stations and divisions with
supplies; and provide all personnel with uniforms, turn out gear or protective
clothing.
Coordinate the
servicing and repair of departmental equipment and vehicles.
Service and maintain
the self-contained breathing apparatus, compressors, tanks and other
specialized equipment.
Prepare reports on
departmental fuel and utilities usage.
Assist with projects
and committees dealing with departmental purchases, communications and public
services.
Supervise
departmental telephone use and submit report to accounting division.
Participate in
departmental wellness program.
Respond to job call
back after working hours and/or on weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge
of:
Principles and procedures of
financial record keeping and reporting.
Principles and practices of budget
preparation and administration.
Operational characteristics and
applications of data processing equipment.
Operation and service requirements
of fire control apparatus and equipment.
Basic report preparation techniques.
Basic mathematical principles.
Radio communication procedures.
Properties of electricity.
Pertinent Federal, State and local
laws, codes and regulations.
English usage, spelling, grammar and
punctuation.
Ability
to:
Maintain physical condition as
required.
Assist in preparing and
administering a budget.
Maintain and repair certain
specialized fire control apparatus and equipment.
Research, compile and document information for
reports and budgetary recommendations.
Operate a word processor, adding
machine and a typewriter.
Operate power and hand tools.
Communicate clearly and concisely,
both orally and in writing.

While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear;
stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or
controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required
to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
The employee must
frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move
up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
the ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Any combination of
education, experience and training that would likely provide the required
knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Equivalent to the
completion of the twelfth grade and supplemented
by college level course work in accounting or a
related field.
Experience:
Three
years of responsible fire-control experience. One year of lead or supervisory
experience is desirable.
Training:
Additional specialized training in
fire science or a related field is desirable.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of, or
ability to obtain, an appropriate and valid North Carolina driver's license.
Possession of, or
ability to obtain, an appropriate and valid certification to repair a Self
Contained Breathing Apparatus.
Possession of an
appropriate and valid emergency medical technician certificate is desirable.
Possession of
residential telephone service required.
