Laboratory Supervisor
1. Supervise
and coordinate the work of the Laboratory Analysts.
2. Schedule
and prioritize analytical work to meet State of North Carolina NPDES monitoring
requirements.
3. Maintain
required State of N.C. analytical certifications for the City’s wastewater
laboratories.
4. Maintain
laboratory quality control program to meet State of North Carolina
requirements.
5.
Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies.
6.
Perform laboratory analyses as needed.
7.
Participate
in budget preparation including cost estimates, expenditure justification, and
budget control.
8.
Provide
or coordinate laboratory analyst training including formal training, on-the-job
training, and feedback through performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
9.
Ensure
compliance with safety policies and procedures.
10.
Other
duties as requested or required.
Minimum qualification for
entry is an associate degree or equivalent in natural science, biology,
chemistry, or environmental science, a minimum of two years’ experience in a
municipal, industrial, or commercial laboratory setting, and a valid North
Carolina driver’s license. Residential telephone service is required.
Desired qualifications
include a bachelor’s degree in natural science, biology, chemistry, or environmental
science and two years supervisory experience in a municipal, industrial, or
commercial laboratory setting.
Must have adequate dexterity
to efficiently complete laboratory analyses, operate a computer keyboard, and
perform similar tasks. Must be able to pass a respirometer examination, use a
protective respirator, and perform outdoor work collecting water and wastewater
samples.
