PARKING CONTROL SPECIALIST
DEFINITION
To perform patrol and enforcement work regarding
parking and other non-moving violations.
SUPERVISION
RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Deputy
Police Chief-Support Services.
Exercises no supervision.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES - Duties may
include, but are not limited to, the following:
Patrol on foot to enforce parking and other
related violations by determining and issuing the proper notice for the
violation.
Mark tires to determine length of time a vehicle
has been stationary.
Give directions and other information to the
public.
Check into meter complaints, look for broken
meters and submit a list of broken meters.
Operate hand-held computer to determine the
number of non-moving violations for a vehicle.
Operate two-way radio to notify Police Department
of unusual situations.
Maintain taxi permit files.
Assist in police records and/or data processing
as needed.
Direct traffic at school crossings.
Respond to job call back after working hours
and/or on weekends.
Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Parking
area locations, especially restricted areas.

Geography
of the City.
Proper
procedures for radio communications.
Basic
mechanics of a parking meter.
Traffic
direction.
Basic
office procedures.
Ability to:
Operate
and maintain a hand-held computer.
Provide
foot patrol in the downtown area.
Handle
public relations firmly but courteously.
Direct
traffic, using proper hand signals.
Operate
a radio using proper procedures.
Provide
court testimony.
Respond
to job call back.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
The employee must
occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the
knowledge and abilities would be:

LICENSE
OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an
appropriate and valid North Carolina driver's license.
Possession of residential telephone service
required.
