PARTS
MANAGER
DEFINITION
To perform general stock and parts management
duties in the garage Parts department; issue parts and materials to authorized
personnel; prepare requisitions for parts and supplies; and maintain an
inventory record of all stock in the Parts department.
SUPERVISION
RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from Fleet
Services Supervisor.
Exercises direct supervision over Parts Clerk.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES - Duties may
include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintain and manage the overall operation of a
parts storeroom to include receipt, storage and issuance of City garage parts
and supplies.
Prioritize and respond to service demands
efficiently and effectively.
Efficiently handle and store a variety of parts,
supplies, oils and gasoline.
Maintain awareness of parts inventory and stock
levels of specific parts.
Prepare purchase requisitions for needed parts
and supplies.
Purchase parts and supplies from specified
vendors; and locate and procure special parts.
Prepare various records and operational reports
as required.
Maintain accurate records of parts and supplies
inventory.
Confer with salesmen in reference to parts and
supplies.
Complete work orders and price all parts.
Respond to special parts requests form other City
departments.
Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic
procedures for maintaining stock records and any related paperwork.
Methods
and procedures of stock control.
Appropriate
vendors to contact for specific parts.
Inventory
lists, including cost of items purchased.
New
parts and equipment needs.
Seasonal
needs of different departments.
Basic
mathematical principles.
Ability to:
Organize
and manage a parts storeroom.
Prepare
and keep accurate records of parts and supplies.
Maintain
an adequate inventory of all parts and supplies.
Analyze
parts needs in given mechanical operations.
Identify
new parts and equipment needed to replace worn parts.
Judge
quality of parts and equipment.
Operate
an adding machine, computer, typewriter, and other office equipment.
Communicate
clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and
maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course
of work.

While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger,
handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and
arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel,
crouch, or crawl.
The employee is
occasionally required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee must
frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift weights up
to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION,
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Any combination of education, experience and
training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
Equivalent
to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
Two
years of responsible experience in parts and stock management.
Training:
Supplemented by
courses or training in stock control records, procedures and general stockroom
operations.
