        PERMIT SERVICES COORDINATOR

 

DEFINITION

 

To perform as coordinator of the issuance of permits to contractors, developers and property owners including the collection of all fees and the maintenance of all permit records.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

 

Receives general supervision from the Development Services Manager.

Exercises no supervision.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Issue water tap and sewer permits, water and sewer inspection permits and residential driveway/sidewalks permit; computer and collect fees for permits issued; and verify locations and identify property owner applying for permit.

 

Verify if contractors have all licenses/bonds required to perform work in City.

 

Distribute work orders to appropriate operating departments.

 

Receive plans from developers, contractors, and engineers; and distribute plans to staff and public agencies for recommendation and/or approval.

 

Create, maintain and update files on frontage fees, permit issuance/final inspection, subdivisions, addresses, and new construction; maintain separate files for exceptions (different frontage fees, fee structure).

 

Prepare monthly report of permits issued.

 

Receive the public and direct to appropriate staff member or department.

 

Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

            Knowledge of:

 

            Fee structure, City ordinances and policies.

 

            Operational characteristics and applications of data processing equipment.

 

            Filing Systems.

            Business letter writing and basic report preparation techniques.

 

            Basic mathematical principles.

 

            Pertinent Federal, State and Local laws, codes and regulations.

 

            Ability to:

 

Interpret and apply applicable Federal, State and local laws, rules, regulations and policies.

 

            Read utility plans, water and sewer maps and understand construction plans.

 

            Accurately use tax maps and property owner listing.

 

            Accurately calculate fees.

 

            Maintain several types of filing systems simultaneously.

 

            Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

 

            Operate Blue Line print machine, computer equipment, typewriter and calculator.

 

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

 

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

 

Any combination of education, experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

            Education:

 

            Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

 

            Experience:

 

            Two years of responsible clerical experience.

            Training:

 

Additional specialized training in record keeping, data processing or a related field is desirable.

 

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid North Carolina driver's license.
