Accountant II FLSA

General Definition of Work
Performs
intermediate skilled technical work reconciling accounts, preparing and
maintaining journal entries, detailed financial records and files, preparing
financial reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited
supervision of the Finance Manager.

Essential Functions
Performs
duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service.
Performs
data entry of miscellaneous journal entries.
Assists
with preparing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Prepares
monthly bank reconciliation for all open bank accounts.
Reviews
general ledger to ensure all funds are balanced.
Performs
end of month preparation and balancing of general ledger.
Responds
to inquiries from various departments in reconciling and adhering to the
department budget
Allocates
interest income to various funds on a monthly basis.
Assists
Account Clerk I or II with accounts payable and payroll preparation and
processing.
Assists
various departments with preparing and administering the annual budget.
Assists
external auditors as needed.
Prepares
annual sales tax report.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough
knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting as applied to municipal
government; thorough knowledge of modern office practices and use of standard
office and accounting equipment; thorough knowledge of audit practices; ability
to prepare complex financial reports; ability to analyze and evaluate complex
financial systems; ability to communicate technical ideas effectively, both
orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with associates, bank personnel, auditors and vendors.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's
degree with coursework in accounting, or related field and minimal experience
in clerical or accounting work, or equivalent combination of education and
experience.
Physical Requirements
This work
requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires
sitting and speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger,
handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking and repetitive
motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required
for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is
required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires
preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general
surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions;
work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light
traffic).
