Community Resource Specialist                     FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

General Definition of Work

Performs difficult skilled administrative support work securing community resources for former violent crime offenders making referrals for clients, tracking secured referrals, maintaining outcome data, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Deputy Police Chief.

Essential Functions

Performs duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service.

Coordinates and schedules meetings, events and notifications.

Coordinates with service providers to solicit support and commitment to facilitate referrals.

Confers with and assesses clients to identify needs and tracks progress.

Refers clients to appropriate agencies for needed services.

Prepares and makes presentations at prisons, schools and community events; represents the program at the community awareness booth.

Performs presentations to at-risk youth and the community.

Maintains accurate database of referrals and placement secured; schedules job interviews.

Supervises, trains, and advises volunteers.

Serves as support personnel to the Project SAFE Neighborhood Community Intervention Team; attends associated meetings.

Operates standard office equipment; enters various data into computer system.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of citizen services, community outreach programs, and available resources; thorough knowledge of counseling and social service practices, procedures and techniques; ability to develop programs and initiatives, conduct job readiness training for notified offenders, help with the development and implementation of related programs; ability to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, social service providers, community organizations, clients, law enforcement personnel and the general public.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree with coursework in human services, or related field and moderate experience in a community, public or government program administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing and walking; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

 

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
