General Definition of Work
Performs
intermediate skilled trades work conducting oil and grease trap inspection and
prevention services, preparing and maintaining appropriate records and files,
and related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Environmental
Services Manager.

Essential Functions
Performs
duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service.
Performs
oil and grease trap interceptor inspections.
Ensures
compliance with safety policies and procedures.
Assists
with pretreatment industrial monitoring as needed.
Answers
questions and provides information to the public; investigates complaints and
takes corrective action as necessary.
Prepares
and translates (English/Spanish) FOG program reports as required by the state
to maintain compliance.
Assists
with developing and implementing division goals, policies and objectives.
Maintains
FOG program files in accordance with State requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General
knowledge of federal, state and municipal laws and regulations pertaining to
contamination of potable water systems; general knowledge of operating and
installing oil and grease trap devices to prevent possible contamination;
ability to advise and instruct installations and detect possible sources of
contamination; ability to advise, instruct and communicate with consumers as to
proper methods of preventing contamination; ability to keep records and prepare
reports; ability to obtain compliance with regulations and to maintain
cooperative and effective relationships with industrial and residential
consumers; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school
diploma or GED and minimal experience working in a water and sewer utility, or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work
requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional
exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or
hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting and using hands to
finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires pushing or pulling and
lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required
for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is
required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires
preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving
small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles
or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly
requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires
working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles,
exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens
and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is
generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Possession of
fluency in Spanish to enable translation of documents to and from same.
