Mail Coordinator                                         FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

General Definition of Work

Performs administrative support work receiving, processing and delivering mail, packages and supplies, , and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Customer Service Supervisor.

Essential Functions

Performs duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service.

Collects and takes mail to and from the U.S. Post Office.

Sorts mail for distribution to departments.

Applies proper postage to outgoing mail.

Maintains postage machine.

Sorts inter-office items for distribution to departments.

Distributes mail and inter-office items to departments.

Collects inter-office items from each department and/or division.

Delivers bank deposits.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of postal methods and regulations; general knowledge of the geography of the City and laws and regulations governing the operation of automobiles; ability to make routine mathematical calculations; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, postal workers and supervisors.

 

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing and sitting and occasionally requires reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

 

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
