Meter Services Technician FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
General Definition of Work
Performs
technical work installing, removing, changing, relocating and repairing meters
and meterboxes, operating equipment, performing other utilities maintenance and
repair work, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited
supervision of the Meter Services Supervisor.

Essential Functions
Performs
duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service.
Installs
new meters and checks valves; replaces defective water meters; tests and calibrates
meters.
Installs
and repairs meter boxes.
Maintains
records of new meters installed and old meters replaced.
Relocates
meters and boxes; raises meter boxes; conducts pressure testing.
Assists
with meter reading when assigned; connects and disconnects service.
Responds
to customer inquiries on issues related to meter repair and replacement.
Assists
with other utilities duties as necessary.
Performs
general administrative support duties as required; answers telephone.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General
knowledge of water service rules and regulations and of the City area; general
knowledge of the repair and operation of water meters; ability to make accurate
observations; ability to make simple arithmetical calculations; ability to use tools
and operate equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school
diploma or GED and minimal experience in meter maintenance, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work
requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional
exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing and
walking, frequently requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to
finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires pushing or pulling and
lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required
for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is
required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires
preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving
small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and
observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure
to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location
(e.g. business office, light traffic).

ability to acquire Grade C Water Meter Technician certification within two
years of employment
