Radio Installation Technician FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
General Definition of Work
Performs
intermediate technical work installing and repairing radio equipment for City
vehicles, performing maintenance on radios and communication equipment, and
related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the limited supervision of the
Telecommunications Manager.

Essential Functions
Performs
duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service.
Installs
and removes radio equipment from all types of City vehicles; maintains wireless
and base communication stations.
Fabricates
and installs radios, sirens, light bars, cages and other types of electrical
and electronic equipment.
Coordinates,
maintains and installs mobile video equipment.
Troubleshoots
customer concerns and resolves issues with their communications system in the
field and shop.
Performs
a variety of diagnostic and analytical tests; runs diagnostic checks; repairs
equipment as indicated by results of testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General
knowledge of basic computer programming; general knowledge of radio repair,
mobile installation, and DC, AC, and RF theory as it applies to wireless
communications; ability to operate test equipment and troubleshoot vehicle
radio problems; ability to repair and maintain municipal radio equipment;
ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; skill in the
use and care of hand tools, machines and equipment; ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with associates, consultants and the
general public.
Education and Experience
High school
diploma or GED and moderate experience in radio installations, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work
requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional
exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing,
walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel,
frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires reaching with hands and
arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements;
vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of
the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken
word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data,
visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or
fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor
vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work
frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally
requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to the risk of
electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a moderately
noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
