Signs and Marking Technician II FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
General Definition of Work
Performs
intermediate skilled trades work preparing and maintaining street signs,
installing street markings, preparing and maintaining records and files,
operating equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited
supervision of the Traffic Operations Manager.
Occasional supervision is exercised over seasonal staff.

Essential Functions
Performs
duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service.
Constructs,
installs and maintains traffic control signs, street name signs, street traffic
markings and parking meters.
Assists
with loading, cleaning and maintaining spray-painting machines; operates
mechanical equipment used in installing and maintaining signs and markings;
drives truck mounted paint machine.
Conducts
manual and automatic traffic counts, compiling and plotting results.
Investigates
and develops solutions to complaints relating to traffic signs and markings.
Assists
with traffic control duties by arranging detours and work zone safety signs and
equipment.
Assists
Traffic Signal Technician I or II as needed.
Cleans
and maintains work area and equipment.
Conducts
inventory of traffic signs on an annual basis.
Prepares
various reports and records as required.
Installs
decorative or holiday signs and markings.
May
be required to work outside normal work hours in on-call and emergency
situations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General
knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in preparing and installing
traffic signs and street markings; general knowledge of the equipment used in
the fabrication of traffic signs; general working knowledge of drafting
methods; skill in operating construction
and heavy equipment; ability to operate computer equipment relating to sign
construction; ability to perform graphic displays; ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school
diploma or GED and minimal experience in traffic marking work, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work
requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of
up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force;
work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing and using hands
to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting and climbing or
balancing and occasionally requires reaching with hands and arms, pushing or
pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication
is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work
requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection
involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating
machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general
surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor
weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts
and exposure to fumes or airborne particles and occasionally requires exposure
to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a
loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
