Transit Dispatcher FLSA
Status: Non-Exempt
General Definition of Work
Performs
intermediate skilled administrative support work scheduling drivers, counting
and depositing collected money, performing basic office duties such as typing,
filing and record keeping, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate
supervision of the Transit Manager. Continuous
supervision is exercised over Transit Operators.

Essential Functions
Performs duties
in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service; encourages
and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.
Receives
telephone calls and provides accurate information or redirects calls to
appropriate staff or office.
Maintains
accurate records; reviews daily work reports and files appropriately.
Counts
and rolls all transit fare box monies; makes daily bank deposits.
Receives
and responds to inquiries related to Americans with Disabilities Act clients;
gathers and verifies information for clients.
Schedules
part-time operators; prepares annual schedule for operators.
Arranges
appointments for pick-up and service of contracted vehicles.
Maintains
adequate inventory of all forms used by transit operations.
Performs
basic clerical duties including typing memoranda, forms, maintenance and filing
of records and reports.
Assumes
the duties of the Transit Operator as needed.
Assumes
functional responsibility for all transit operations on Saturdays and in the
Transit Manager's absence.
Trains
new drivers as needed; schedules transit operators for training classes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough
knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets and
important buildings; thorough knowledge of utility terminology as applied to
services and equipment; ability to enunciate clearly and distinctly; ability to
exercise the use of good judgment in evaluating situations and making
decisions; general knowledge of standard office practices, procedures,
equipment and secretarial techniques; ability to understand and follow
moderately complex oral and written instructions; ability to keep simple
records and prepare reports; ability to operate various office machines;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school
diploma or GED and moderate experience in transit operations, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work
requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional
exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking
or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires
standing and walking and occasionally requires pushing or pulling and
repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication
is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and
conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or
quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word
levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual
inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles
or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently
requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires
exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather
conditions; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds
maintenance, heavy traffic).
