Treatment Plant Supervisor FLSA Status:
Exempt
General Definition of Work
Performs
intermediate skilled technical work supervising the operation of the water
treatment plant, coordinating shift schedules, insuring compliance with
operating permit requirement, maintaining records, preparing reports, and
related work as apparent or assigned.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Plant Operations
Manager. Departmental supervision is
exercised over all personnel within the department.

Essential Functions
Performs
duties in accordance with the City's keys to excellent customer service;
encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.
Oversees
and participates in the day-to-day operations of the water treatment facility
Oversees
preparation of State monitoring and compliance reports for review and approval
by the Plant Operations Manager; reviews other paperwork and documentation
submitted by water treatment plant staff.
Implements
goals, policies and procedures for the water treatment plant.
Assists
in initiation, conduct, review and coordination of needed personnel
transactions including, recruitment, selection, classification, compensation,
evaluation, promotion, transfer, discipline, and termination.
Assists
the Plant Operations Manager in the preparation of the division annual budget sections
pertaining to water treatment; approves and monitors expenditures authorized in
the budget.
Assists
in review of plans and specifications for wastewater capital improvement
projects; assists in coordination of projects with consulting engineers and
contractors.
Attends
various meetings, including staff and supervisory meetings.
Assigns
daily work schedules for water treatment plant staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough
knowledge of the principles, practices and equipment of water plant operations;
thorough knowledge of chlorination requirements of water distribution systems;
thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public works
administration; comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety
precautions involved in water plant operation; some knowledge of routine
laboratory procedures; ability to plan and supervise operations; ability to
prepare detailed reports and maintain records; ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with associates, engineers,
governmental agency representatives and the general public..
Education and Experience
High school
diploma or GED and considerable experience in the area of water treatment, or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work
requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional
exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing,
walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel,
frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires lifting; work has
standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or
exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive
information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing
written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or
small parts, using measuring devices and observing general surroundings and
activities; work occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
and exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately
noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Possession of
North Carolina A-Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator certificate.
Valid commercial
driver's license in the State of
